Why we do what we do...

In 2018, our church learned of these staggering statistics:

-In one year, over 700 calls are made to DCFS from Logan County alone.

-On average, DCFS is able to act on 10% of those cases.

-This leaves over 600+ cases in which children/families are experiencing chaos, danger, or neglect and have no place to turn for help.

So, our church decided to act.

By partnering with Safe Families for Children, our church has created a network of love through which families in our church "temporarily host children and provide a network of support to families in crisis while they get back on their feet."

How you can help...

The Safe Families network at Lincoln First UMC doesn't just consist of Host Families, those families who become temporary guardians of children in crisis. Others in the church serve as Family Friends, assisting Host Families with childcare, meals, transportation, respite care, and much more, while still others act as Resource Friends and help to provide Host Families with necessary items such as diapers, wipes, formula, clothing for children, etc. Along with Family Coaches, individuals who help by providing administrative assistance and resource coordination throughout the Safe Families hosting, each area of service supports the others so that the children and families in our care can be loved and served to the best of our ability.
